Another setback

I guess it was inevitable but I ran yesterday and then by evening I was hurting in my calf quite a bit. This morning I had trouble walking on it. I was going to go bike riding but I think that's out. I just hope I'm okay for my regular Tues. workout.

I'm not as upset about this as I was the last time it happened though. Mainly because that last time led to some significant improvements. Plus, I was warned that this might happened and to just adjust, back off for a bit until it healed, and then jump back into exercising again. It's actually taken longer for this setback than I was expecting so I consider that a good sign too.

Or maybe I'm just in denial...

The only thing I worry about is that I won't be ready for my 5k in March or that I'll not be better when it comes time to do all these races I signed up for. I was so sure I would be completely better by the end of the month that I signed up for more races than I intended. I was going to sign up for everything last minute and only sign up earlier if the race was due to sell out.

But once I signed up for Wildflower (which probably will sell out soon), I just couldn't stop myself!

I've decided not to worry about it. I can't control it and I need to workout to break up this scar tissue so I can be 100% better so I have to keep doing what I'm doing and take chances that once in a while I'll overdo it.

2011 Race Schedule

I just spent all week signing up for races! I really love to race. Plus, since my goal this year is to get stronger and faster, I figure I can use races as hard workouts and practice racing and that will help. I had wanted to do that last year but the injury just wouldn't let me. I am enough better now that I think I'll be okay soon enough.

Since I love to race with people I know, I figured I'd post my schedule and that might encourage my friends to sign up for these races too.

Catching up

I can't believe how long it's been since my last post. I have a lot of things I'm working on but also I've been really busy with work and life and I'm behind on the blog and haven't been visiting as many of my normal social media sites either.

On the workout front, I'm trying to get back to my normal schedule. I said I wouldn't start training for IMC until March but I'm getting antsy. Too bad it's been raining all week and may rain out my Saturday ride. I need to get back into my 4 workouts during the week and 4 during the weekend schedule or I'm going to be woefully unprepared for my upcoming races.

On the running front, I am doing Couch-to-5K in an effort to ease back into running without going too fast, too soon. However, I'm stuck on Week 5. This week calls for a 20 min. run on Day 3 and that just isn't happening. I can do Day 2: Run 8 min, walk 5, Run 8 min. but the last 1-2 min. of my second 8 minute run often hurt quite a bit as does a lot of the 5 minute cool-down walk afterwards. There's no way I can run 20 minutes straight when I can't run 16 minutes with a walk break in between.
