One step back?

Hopefully it's two steps forward, one step back and not the other way around...

Since my training has been going well and I was able to run that 10k, I decided to go to Track yesterday.

That was a mistake.

I don't know what it is, but there is something about Track that always causes me to push myself to the point of stupidity. On top of that, I've been trying to do some Crossfit Endurance type of runs and I did two in a row last week and I was still hurting a bit from the last one. But I had decided earlier in the week to go to track and I went anyway even though I probably should have done a spin class instead.

This time, even though I know I have to run slowly not to be in pain, I ran too fast on the "easy" run out to the farm that is our base. Then, I tried to do two loops of the four loop run. I rested in between and I walked the uphill part of the first loop. But the second loop was too much and I walked almost all of that and very slowly at that.

I was afraid at one point that I wouldn't be able to get back to the parking lot before dark because it hurt so much to walk. A friend went back to the base to get my Fluid bottle and jacket and that helped. Also stopping to stretch a lot helped.

This injury is so weird. I can be in the most horrible pain, but if I rest a bit or rub it out then I am okay again at least for a little while. I don't think I'm doing permanent damage, but I can't be sure. I know I need to break through the scar tissue and get my mobility back in my knee, but I'm not sure how to do that. It seems like some days nothing is wrong and other days I can hardly run at all. The bike and swim workouts aren't stressing anything but some of the Crossfit and all of the running does. I just hope it's stressing it in a way that will fix things in the long run.

I'm thinking I need to go back to PT though. I do have an ART appointment for next week. I wanted to be nice and stretched out for my Century ride. I also got a deep tissue massage this weekend and have another one scheduled for after Tierra Bella. After that, I intend to have a sports massage every other week and see if that helps. I'm trying to stretch more in general, but I tend to forget or get too busy to take the time.
