A week of doctors

It's that time of year again. Time for my yearly check-ups. Time to see Dr. Awesome. Plus the fiscal year rolled over so I'm going to get some crowns fixed and start back to PT.

Yesterday I saw Dr. Awesome. He was pretty happy with me. He's still cautioning me about what will happen when and if I don't exercise as much. But I've already been through that this winter and will probably go through a mini version of that every winter when I can't be outdoors as much. So I'm not too worried. I know that my hunger will decrease, if I let it, and that tracking my food will help me through it. If I can get through this winter when I'm more than a year out from my losing phase without a major gain, I think I'll be okay. I guess we'll see.

He did use words like phenomenal and exceptional to describe my results. That was nice.
He also said that if my yearly labs are good this year, that I really don't have to have them done every year after this. It's the nature of this operation (compared to a bypass or DS) that we don't have to worry about malnutrition issues forever.

Of course, anyone can develop a nutritional deficiency at any time for reasons other than WLS. So I plan to be vigilant forever. I'll probably have the ones that concern me (Vitamin D, Calcium, Iron, PTH, Protein, etc.) done every year, but not the full panel including all the obscure vitamins and minerals I've never had an issue with and VSG patients in general hardly ever do, either.

Then in the afternoon I went back to PT. I talked to Mr. PT about also doing some acupuncture and maybe even some chiropractic stuff. I want to throw the kitchen sink at my calf and see what sticks. I want to be able to run a 5k by the end of the month and a 10k by the Santa Cruz Tri in late-Sept. If I can do that, I think I'll be okay for IMAZ. But it's going to be a tight time frame if I can't get this injury to heal up!

He referred me to his acupuncture guy. My first acupuncture treatment is set for tomorrow. I've never had it before and I'm a bit leery and skeptical. But I figure it can't hurt, so why not try something new? But I'm a bit nervous. I'll update after the visit.

I haven't set up the chiropractic visit yet. I am getting at least one crown replaced next week on top of everything else. I don't have to do the labs until Sept. Unfortunately, I think I'm do for another colonoscopy this year. I am not looking forward to that! Plus, it's a lot of time off work so I need to space everything out.
